2023-2024 Champions!

Congratulations to the Down Lo Playa's and their impressive win over the Oasis Outlaws last Thursday night.

Leo got the first 2 wins off of Mike Karol, but then Kevin Lombard came back and got 2 of his own against Larry Hiller, making it 3-3. Kevin Cibart then shot and got all 3 games against Danny Flippin making it 6-3 Playa's at the break. In the the 4th spot, Evan was pitted against Ricky Martin. Evan came out of it with a 2-1 victory. Gregg Taylor then shot next for the Outlaws, desperate for some wins. He had to play Kelly Cibart, but only got 2 out of 3. Last up was Tree versus Ice Cream. Tree got the first match, but Ice Cream got the second and final match, making it a Playa's 10-7 Championship victory.

Congrats to the Outlaws for a 2nd place finish, and The Damned with a 3rd place season. Those 3 teams will receive their trophies at the......

POOL PARTY - THIS SATURDAY, JUNE 29th!

As always - FREE beer for CPL Players, lots of pot luck food choices, BBQ dinner provided by Samoan Joe, trophy presentations to not only the top 3 teams, but our Top Shooter and the Most Improved Player, pool tournaments, music, and the best part - THE GIANT RAFFLE! We've got the Predator pool cues, a Cuetec break cue, and tons of other prizes. But probably the biggest? Just announced - a pair of tickets to a 49ers Pre-Season Game! August 18th vs. The Saints. I was lucky enough to attend the playoff game against the Packers in these exact seats back in January. Not only are they tickets to Levi's Stadium, they are in the Yahoo! Club Section. Cushy seats, phenomenal view, literally 10 steps from the inside concession area where everything is included - yes, pizza, pretzels, sodas, candy - literally everything but the booze. There aren't even cash registers, except at the full bars. Your perfectly clean restrooms shared with just a handful of people, not general population, are within a stone's throw. This prize if it went public would get people coming to enter the pool raffle who don't even play pool. Trust me, this is a big deal, and a big prize. These are pictures from that game:

All this action - the famous Chico Pool League party - starts at 1:00pm, Saturday, June 29th.

But before the party, is the pre-party. The new tradition of 'Breakfast With Stacy'! Starting at 9:30am, and running until 11:00am, Kym will be serving breakfast and drinks at the Oasis. She'll be offering egg, bacon, cheese sandwiches, and French toast with 2 eggs and bacon! Hash browns can be added as well! Free coffee will be available, too. Plus for those ready to party early, Stacy will have his famous Bloody Mary's on special, and 1 complimentary glass of champagne for a Pool League members! Is this guy the best bar owner or what?!?!

So bring some raffle money, some empty stomaches, and your best shot, for the End-Of-The-Year Party - this SATURDAY, 1:00pm!

Jun 18, 2024, 4:40 pm

Congratulations to The Damned - the 2023-24 3rd Place Team!

They beat Duffy's last week 10-3, thanks to Goran and Tony's 3-0 victories. It was 6-3 at the break, Daniel got 2 and Ed got 1 for Duffy's. Derek started the night with a big 2-1 win to start off the score sheet. Philo wrapped it up with 1 win in the final match to get to the 10-3 score.

On Thursday, June 20th the Oasis Outlaws will be home facing the Down Lo Playa's for the championship - 7:00pm, table #1.

Congratulations to Kevin Cibart - the 2023-24 9th Annual Charles Lintz Top Shooter!

Kevin found a way to fight through a tough field of competitors - these were truly the top 16 shooters in Chico. In the end, in the single-elimination tournament, Kevin beat Ricky in the race-to-five finals 5-1. Kevin earned himself $300 for his 32nd Top Shooter achievement, passing his old record of 31 top shooter titles. (Just kidding - I'm going to find out from him what number this is!). Way to go Kevin! Not only a top shooter, a top person - truly the class act of pool shooters in Northern California.

POOL PARTY! June 29th, 1:00pm - Oasis!

I'm starting to get prizes now, and they're good! Two different Predtator Cues, a Cuetec break cue, and of course so much more. I'm at about $2000 so far in prizes alone. Trophies will be next to get made, Samoan Joe is on food, Stacy has the Kegs on order (Hazy and Bud Light), Kimm is helping with 'Breakfast with Stacy' (more details to come). It's what we play for - so mark your calendar and get your raffle funds together!

2nd Round of playoffs!

The #1 Outlaws were home at the Oasis taking on the 4th seed Duffy's. It was all Outlaws for the most part. Kevin Lombard and Ricky each got 3 in the first half, but Ed Theis got 2 making it 7-2 Outlaws. Bulldog came back and got 2 against Robert's 1 win, then Greggy Bear got the last point to make it a 10-3 Outlaws win. They will now head to the finals for the 2nd straight year!

The #7 Playa's had a similar result against the #3 seed Damned. Kevin, Evan, and Dwayne each got 2 out of 3 in their first half matchups, making the score 6-3 at that point. Leo chipped in 2 more making it 8-4. And Kelly rounded it off with another 2-win victory to make it 10-4 Playa's. The Playa's are back in the Championship!

So here's the schedule for this week's 3rd/4th Place match:

Thursday, June 13th:

#3 seed Damned will face off versus the #4 seed Duffy's, at Down Lo, Table 10, 7:00pm

Championship Match

Thursday, June 20th:

#1 seed Outlaws versus the #7 seed Down Lo Playa's, at the Oasis, Table 1, 7:00pm

Don't forget, in between those matches on Saturday June 15th - Top Shooter Tournament at the Oasis starting at 11:00am!

Pool Party! June 29th, at the Oasis, starting at 1:00pm. I'm working out the details with Kim and Stacy, but we should have our 2nd annual 'Breakfast with Stacy' in the morning - bloody mary's, breakfast, champagne(?) - I'll let you know!

Playoff Update
Jun 4, 2024, 5:39 pm

Here's what went down last week in the first round of the Playoffs:

The Damned were home hosting the Down Lo Stickmen last week. In a rematch from last year, the two teams went back and forth through the night. Phylicia did record a 3-0 win in her match taking out Tony Tokarski, but then Derek Spainhower came right back with a 3-0 win for himself against Ptolemy 'PT' - everyone else went 2-1 or 1-2. It almost went to a scotch doubles tie breaker, but Philo edged out Stickman Keith to get the final 10th point in a 10-8 victory. The Damned advance to the next round.

Duffy's had a home playoff bout for the first time in a very long time, if ever? They were able to take that home field advantage out against the Oasis Bandits. Robert D. got all three of his games against Jarrett to give his team a 6-3 lead, a lead they wouldn't relinquish. The Duffy's squad ended on top 10-6 ending the Bandit's season. Duffy's moves on to round #2.

The Oasis Outlaws were home against their bar mates, the Oasis Bankers. It was a #1 versus #8 seed matchup and the Bankers held their own. The Bankers were even up 6-3 at the halfway point. But Mike Karol stepped up and got all 3 of his games against a tough Scotty J to get it back even, then Ricky chipped in 2 more wins, and Greggy Bear finished the night with 2 more to give the Outlaws a 10-7 victory - almost a shutout from that halfway point. The Outlaws move on, the Bankers prepare for next season.

In another close match, the Oasis Bulldogs were home hosting the Down Lo Playa's. A #2 versus #7 seed matchup. Like the Bankers, the Bulldogs were up 6-3 at the halfway point, thanks to Brennon's 3-0 victory. But, like Mike Karol, Kevin Cibart was up next and got all 3 of his games against Bulldogs captain Steve Smith, making the match square at 6-6. Kelly Cibart was up next and got 2 out of 3 making it 8-7 Playa's. Evan Casey was in the final matchup for the Playa's against Dennis Bruch. Evan got the first one putting them on the hill at 9-7, but Dennis won the next making it 9-8 Playa's. If Dennis got the next one it would go to an exciting Scotch Doubles match - but Evan decided to end it right off the break - with a break-and-run to seal the deal, a 10-8 Playa's 'upset’, taking down the #2 seed team. So the Playa's move on to the next round and the Bulldogs prepare for the Top Shooter Tournament next Saturday.

Here's this week's playoff matchups:

#1 Seed Outlaws vs #4 Seed Duffy's, at the Oasis, June 6th - 7:00pm, Table #1

#3 Seed Damned vs #7 Seed Playa's, at the Down Lo, June 6th - 7:00pm, Table #10

Interesting note: if Duffy's wins and takes out the Outlaws, and the Playa's beat the Damned, Duffy's will be the high seed going into the Championship, at their home bar! That's right - the Championship COULD be at Duffy's - whoa.

OK - see you on Thursday!

Yes, it's playoff time - starting this Thursday, May 30th. The standings stayed the same as they have been the past few weeks.

Last Regular Season Matches!
May 19, 2024, 5:12 pm

Last week of the regular season is upon us! Except for the Eagles who will have the last bye week of the season - they're already starting to plan for the 2024-2025 campaign.

All stats and scores are entered and are officially set in stone. Too late now to file an error - it is what it is now, unless I mess up on the last night's scores somehow. Then I'll of course fix that error before playoffs.

Stats are done and the Top Shooter list is up to the minute. Still could be some drama at the bottom of the top 16 groupings. Phylicia, Aaron, and Ed will all be playing eachother's teammates this upcoming last night so we'll see who gets in, and who doesn't. Tree could still be in play, too - maybe? Depends on how many he gets and if the 3 or 4 above him all knock themselves out.

Playoffs start May 30th. Top Shooter Tournament will be at the Oasis on Saturday, June 15th, starting at 11:00am.

Good luck this week - have fun!

-Scott-

May 9, 2024, 4:05 pm

Down to our final THREE WEEKS of the regular season! Except for the Bandits, Playa's, and Eagles - they have the last 3 bye weeks.

Just waiting for a score sheet from the Hateful 8 for their game versus the Eagles on May 2nd, but besides that the standings are up to date, as well as the individual statistics. AND the Top Shooter page is all up to the minute! Again, reminder, the Top Shooter tournament has been MOVED from June 22nd (like the paper schedule says) to June 15th (like the website says). Saturday afternoon still, 1:00pm start, at the Oasis this year. Sorry for any inconveniences, but it is one busy month of June. I assume not just for me.

This is your last call to notify me if there are any errors in your individual stat line and/or your team's points. After May 23rd the scores and stats stay locked as they are - right or wrong.

We need to wish a farewell/bon voyage/happy trails to an OG in the Chico (Mens) Pool Legue, a huge member of the local pool scene, an incredible golfer, and an Oasis icon - Mr. Joel Russo! Joel has been playing in our pool league for more than 30 years, which only equals a handful of players still in the league today. Unfortunately he left before many of us were able to even say goodbye. Joel is happily working up in Bandon, Oregon at the renowned Bandon Dunes Golf Resort. He says he's living the dream and misses everyone here in Chico and wanted to make sure I passed that on to you guys. I've included a few pictures I had and that he sent along. Be sure to give him a shout out on your social media of choice.

Schedule Change
Mar 17, 2024, 2:32 pm

Just a heads up for the schedule.

I had to put two matches (four teams) playing at the Tackle Box three different nights this season just due to the fact of logistics and tables available at the packed Oasis. We got through the first night in the first half of the season, but we have two more nights coming up. Rich has let me know that the 2nd table at the Tackle Box really isn't playable, or at least doesn't meet the minimum standards of other tables in the league. So the two Tackle Box teams have agreed to play at a neutral site (the Down Lo) on those upcoming nights. So here is the new schedule for those matches:

Thursday, March 21st: Tackle Box Two vs The Hateful 8, Down Lo Table 5

Thursday, May 2nd: Tackle Box Alligator Humpers vs The Dragons, Down Lo Table 10

Sorry for the confusion - please let your teammates know if you are on one of those 4 teams.
