The Tackle Box owner decided today (Tuesday) that if we brought our tri-tip and pot luck dishes it would be too much competition for his snack bar and the event wouldn't be profitable enough for him. Plus the kegs of beer we buy from the bar is generally/historically bought at cost which reduces his beer sale profits - it would have been great for the tip-receiving bartenders, but not the bar itself. I can't afford to feed everyone through his snack bar with just the $300 I have budgeted each year - insert gratitude for Mike Clarke and Chico Locker & Sausage HERE. So he decided this afternoon to pull out and cancel the event at his Tackle Box.

As the Oasis, Down Lo, Empire, and Eagles know, the event is not meant to be a purely profitable 'gift' for the bar. It's still profitable, probably more than a standard Saturday early afternoon, but it's more of a way for the bar to get exposure to the 200 players and their guests and the guest's family and friends. As the annual sole host, it's also a way for that bar to thank ALL the players, not just the home team, who make the bar's Thursday and Tuesday nights throughout the league seasons profitable almost year-round. So anyways, Tackle Box is out.

Stacy, who's been around these blocks a few times, took this opportunity with open arms and would like to invite you and your friends to the Oasis Bar & Grill this Saturday afternoon from 1:00pm - 6:00pm or so. Everything is exactly the same - free beer, free tri-tip with pot luck dishes, free pool, trophies, awards, and of course the famous raffle - just back over to the Oasis. This also means more tables for open play and tournaments, so we'll look at this disapointment as a positive for the players.

Be sure to thank the Oasis, and of course the Oasis bartenders who will be raking in the tips now, by purchasing drinks and food outside of the free ones provided. Buy Stacy, your teammate, Meredith, your friend, the champion Bulldogs, the random girl at the bar plenty of shots, purple hooters, Beam & Cokes, and those delicious Oasis french fries. They are accommodating us last minute.

Sorry for any inconvenience - we are going to lock down these issues at the next Captain's meeting. The Tackle Box will not be in our normal rotation of party host bars for at least 3 years, if they want to do this in the future at all. It's ultimately up to them.

So again, thanks for your patience and we'll see you on Saturday - at the Oasis, 1:00pm!

Walter Dorsey

2015-2016 CMPL Charles Lintz Top Shooter

Congratulations to Walt for making it all the way through what started as the prestigious Charles Lintz Top Shooter Tournament, but will be remembered as the wet-n-wild one of 2016. His concentration and pure skill was unmatched as he took on some of Chico's best. Here's what happened on May 12th (at least on the pool tables):

Walter defeated Kevin Cibart in the first round to move on to round #2. He played Leland who managed to dry off and defeat Philo in round #1.

Joel Russo was nudged out of the tournament by Eric Nichols in the opening round. Eric went on to face Kenny Duff, who defeated Mike Brandt in round #1.

Walter beat Leland in Round #2 to move on to the Championship.

Eric Nichols defeated Kenny Duff to also move on to the Championship.

In the race to 5 final match, Walter beat Eric 5-1 to take home the 2nd annual Charles Lintz Top Shooter trophy and a cool $100 cash. Congratulations again, Walt!

Championships!
May 11, 2016, 4:25 pm

Okay, that's a wrap for the playoffs!

Here's how everything ended:

For the A-Trophy:

3rd/4th Place Match:

The Oasis Ball Busters took on Stacy and his O-Team. The Ball Busters must have still been pretty sour about their loss the week prior and they took it out on the O-Team to the tune of 11-1. Walt, Kevin, and Eric each ran their games 3-0, but Chris Singleton got the lone win for the O-Team against Bil, who got 2 out of 3. So the Ball Busters are the 2015-2016 A-Trophy 3rd Place Team! Congrats!

Championship Match:

In the Championship match, the Oasis Outlaws were taking on the Oasis Bulldogs for all the glory. It was essentially all Bulldogs as they went on to beat the Outlaws 11-3. Brenon got all 3 off of Kenny, Mike Karol got 2 out of 3 against Keith, Chris Urbach went 3-0 against Sean Bell. Robbie got 2 out of 3 against Izzy - one of the wins via an 8-Ball Break-and-run. Dennis finished the night with 2 wins against Gregg. Congratulations to the 2015-2016 A-Trophy Champions - the Oasis Bulldogs!

For the B-Trophy:

3rd/4th Place Match:

The Oasis Bankers were hosting the Shenanigan's Rack Pack. It was close all the way through. Mike Dowd started off with a 3-0 win for the 'Pack, but it went back and forth from their. It all came down to the final match: Shenanigans 10, Bankers 8 at this point. All the Rack Pack needed was one more win...and one more player. They only had 6 players so they had to forfeit the last match and give 3 points to the Bankers who used them to get to 11 points and the win. Congratulations to the Oasis Bankers - 2015-2016 B-Trophy 3rd place team!

Championship Match:

It was another close one at Duffy's as they were taking on the Eagles. Ed Theis started the night with a 2-1 win against Robin, but then Bobbo got all 3 of his games against Ice Cream. Donny followed that up with 2 more against Prana, and Jon COX followed suit with 2 out of 3 against Kevin K. It was 8-4 Eagles at the break. In the second-half, Woot got 2 out of 3 against Mike Daniels, and Evan followed that with 2 against Dylan. That brought Duffy's back from the dead and into the rare playoff 7th frame with the Eagles up by just one, 10-9. Steve Swim got the first game to make it tied 10-10, but Terry Smith came back clutch and got the second game to get his Eagles to the required 11 points, and the B-Trophy Championship. Congrats!

Up Next... The Charles Lintz Top Shooter Tournament - May 12th, 7:00pm, at the Down Lo.

These 8 players will be battling it out for the top spot. Here's the first round match-ups (if everyone shows up):

Walter Dorsey vs. Kevin Cibart

Kenny Duff vs. Mike Brandt

Joel Russo vs. Eric Nichols

Leland Baxter vs. Philo Hunt

(Ed Theis and Ty Kaye are the two alternates waiting for someone not to show)

Those are some matches I'm not gonna want to miss - just imagine the next round, and the championship! Come down and check it out - Down Lo - 7:00pm, Thursday night.

Pool Party!

Looks like it's going to be moved to Saturday, June 4th

Graduation weekend and Memorial Day weekend are becoming a little sticky, so we're going to steer clear and aim for June 4th, at the Tackle Box. More info. to come...

Playoffs - Round #2
Apr 28, 2016, 11:46 pm

Click on brackets above to enlarge

Here's what happened in week/round #2 of the Playoffs:

In by far the most dramatic playoff match of the year, the #1 seeded Oasis Ball Busters were taking on the #3 seed Oasis Bulldogs. Cal's Ball Busters were down 4-8 at the half - Walt got 2 out of 3 against Brenon, but Keith came back and got 2 out of 3 against Eric Nichols. Then Chris Urbach got 2 from Kevin Lombard, and Dennis got all 3 against Brian Norman. They skipped the beer frame, and the 'Busters sent Bil B. up against Steve Smith - Bil got all 3. Then Cal put himself down against Robbie K., and also got all 3. This gave the Ball Busters a 10-8 lead, on the hill, leading into the final match - Bob Tracy vs. Ty Kaye. Ty went all superhero and won all 3 to bring the Bulldogs back on top with an 11-10 victory. Woah... The Bulldogs now go on to face the Outlaws for the A-Trophy Championship on May 5th at the Oasis. The Ball Busters will play the consolation 3rd/4th match against the Oasis O-Team.

Those O-Teamers were in a pretty good dog fight against the Outlaws. It was 7-5 Outlaws after the 4th match. Kenny got 2 against Stacy, Shawn Bell got 2 against Dave Napier, but Brian got 2 against Tree (Matt Fields). Greg came back and got 2 out of 3 against James V. Then, in the 5th match, Outlaw Ricky got all 3 against Dwayne. Joel got the first one against Izzy, but Izzy got the deciding 2nd game to put his team on top and win 11-6.

For the B-Trophy playoffs, the Stripes Conference #5 seed Bankers were taking on the #6 seed Eagles at the Oasis. Barney started off with 2 out of against Craig, but Donny Sibley came back and got all 3 of his games against Jim W. In the 3rd match Mark Edwards could only get 1 off of Jon COX. Robbin got 2 out of 3 against Rich Boelens. Bobbo got 2 more against Ken to get his team on the hill, and Terry took care of the rest and got one out of one against Russ. Final score: 11-5 Eagles. The Eagles now soar on to take on Duffy's, May 5th, at Duffy's. The Bankers play Shenanigan's at Oasis on April 28th for the 3rd/4th place game.

The #5 seed on the Solids Conference side was the Duffy's crew. They hosted the #7 seeded Shenanigan's.  It started out pretty good for the Rack Pack - Matt Altenberg got 2 out of against Paul Lampright to start the night off. Unfortunately, that was the last points the 'Pack were going to score that night. Woot got all 3 against Kevin L., Prana got all 3 against Rob Francis, Kevin Kinnell got 3 out of 3 against Gary Charlesworth, and Ice Cream wrapped it up with 1 out of 1 against Drew P. Final score: 11-2 Duffy's.

So 3rd/4th place games this week (April 28th) and the 2 Championship matches (A and B Trophies) will play next week, May 5th.

Good luck!

Playoff Results from Round 1 (4/14):

Never received a scoresheet from the Empire for their B-trophy playoff game against Shenanigans in Durham last week. I (vaguely) remember talking to Kevin from the Rack Pack when he came to the Oasis after his match. I see that I wrote in his team on the bracket sheet on the wall, but I can't say I totally remember it. It is my handwriting, though. So I'm going to assume Shenanigan's won and the Rack Pack will be moving on and facing Duffy's, at Duffy's, this Thursday night. Or, maybe the Empire will show up there if they were the winning team. Ed - you're playing either Shenanigan's or Empire this Thursday night at your place.

For the A-Trophy playoffs:

In the closest match by far, the #2 Down Lo Playa's were home taking on the #3 Oasis Bulldogs. These teams just played eachother in the final week of the regular season in a close 11-10 match won by the Bulldogs, forcing a tie between the two teams in the standings. This time Charles got 2 out of 3 against Brenon, but then Dennis B came back and got all 3 against Jeff Jacobsen. Kevin Cibart got 2 out of 3 against Keith, as did Rusty against Chris Urbach. At the half, teams were tied at 6-6. Jason shot in the 5th spot against Ty and got 2 out of 3, but Bulldog captain Steve came back and got 2 wins against Leland. This made it 9-9 going into the last match - Larry Hiller versus Robbie. Robbie got the first game to get Oasis on the hill, but Larry came back and got the second match to make it hill-hill. According to reports Larry accidentally pocketed the 8-ball early in some fashion giving Robbie the game, and the Bulldogs the match: 11-10. The Bulldogs now go on to face the Oasis Ball Busters at the Oasis this Thursday night.

The #1 seed Outlaws were taking on the #4 seed Stickmen in round one at the Oasis. It was actually pretty close for a while - the Stickmen were hanging in there. Keith got all 3 of his games for the Stickmen, Shawn Bell got all 3 for his squad. Final score: 11-7 Outlaws. The Outlaws stay at home this Thursday and face the Oasis O-Team.

The other #1 seed, the Ball Busters, were hosting the #4 seed Down Lo Damned at the Oasis. It was all Ball Busters as they won 11-4. Walt and Kevin each got 3-0 wins to help their team. Again, the Ball Busters face the Bulldogs this week in round #2.

The third match at the Oasis was the #2 seed O-Team taking on the #3 seed Dragons. This match went in favor of the O-Team, 11-7. Sober Chuck, who shot in the last match mind you, got all 3 of his games to get to 11 points. The O-Team takes on the Outlaws this week.

For the B-Trophy playoffs:

The #6 Eagles were home taking on the #7 seed Tackle Box. Robin was one of the stars for the Eagles team as he got all 3 of his games. The final score was 11-5 Eagles. The Eagles will now take on the #5 seed Bankers at the Oasis this Thursday night.

#5 seed Duffy's had the bye and will stay at home to face the Shenanigan's Rack Pack (or the Empire) this Thursday night.

Good luck to everyone still playing - don't forget about us 'losers' - we're jealous and wish we were still playing, too. If you did get knocked out already, come down to your nearest bar and watch some playoff action and cheer on your favorite team!

-Scott-

Week #20 and Playoff Info
Apr 11, 2016, 3:23 am

Okay, the 2015-2016 regular season is complete!

Here's what happened the final week of the regular season:

In the most important match as far as determining playoff positioning, the Bulldogs hosted the Down Lo Playa's. The two teams were only 1 point different leading into the night - the Playa's were ahead by 1 point in the standings. The two teams came out swinging and ended up in a tie after the first four matches. Chris had a 3-0 game for the Bulldogs, Larry got one for the Down Lo. Jason and Leland beat Ed and Dennis F. in the beer frame, 2-1. In the bottom half it was back and forth and tied going into the last game, 10-10. It was Steve S. against Leland, tied 1-1, and Steve got the final deciding match. But the Playa's got just enough with their 10 to stay tied in points versus the Bulldogs, and win via a tie breaker because they have more wins on the season. So these two teams will face off against each other this Thursday at the Down Lo.

The Down Lo Damned were supposed to play the Empire Club but only a few players made the trip out from Durham. Because they didn't have enough, the Damned gets a free win 12-0 (their season average is 12.11 or so). With their win comes an added gift - the #4 seeded Damned get to play the #1 seed Oasis Ball Busters this Thursday in the first round. The #6 seed Empire will play at home versus the #7 seed Shenanigan's.

Over at the Oasis, the Dragons were taking on the Bankers. Kenny Smith got all 3 of his games to help his team to a 6-6 tie at the break. Jim and Barney beat Walt and Krad for Stacy's beer, 2-0. In the bottom-half Aaron, Micah, and Steve all went 2-1 to get their score to 12, Bankers finished with 9. (Both intoxicated(?) captains signed the score sheet saying it was 13-8, but when using addition I came up with 12-9 - FYI). The #3 seeded Dragons play the #2 seeded O-Team this Thursday night, the #5 seeded Bankers are on a bye in the B-Trophy division.

The Stickmen finished up their season at home versus the Eagles. Lucky for both teams some great bands were playing the entire night - no jazz! Cele got all 3 of his matches to get his team to a 7-5 lead at the break. Terry and Craig beat Rob and Nate in the beer frame, 2-0. In the bottom-half Rob, Scott, and Keith each had 2-1 matches to get the final score to 13-8 Stickmen. The #4 seeded Stickmen will be beating, I mean playing, the #1 seeded Oasis Outlaws at the Oasis Thursday night. The #6 seed Eagles will be playing the #7 seed Tackle Box, at the Eagles.

Duffy's hosted the visiting Shenanigan's crew last Thursday night. Both teams traded 2-1 matches in the first half to get to a 6-6 tie. Kevin K. and Ed beat Mike D. and Matt in the beer frame, 2-1. In the bottom half Brian, Gary, and Mike went 1, 2, 3 consecutively to get their final score to 12-9 Rack Pack. Duffy's is the #5 seed bye this week for the B-trophy playoffs, and the #7 seed Shenanigans will be playing the #6 seed Empire, in Durham, this Thursday.

At the Oasis, the Outlaws were taking on their bar-brothers, the Oasis O-Team. Kenny Duff started the night with a 3-0 win and the rest of his team got either 2-1 or 1-2 matches - mainly 2-1's, except for one person who got a zero against Brian V. Conversely, on the other half of the sheet, most O-Teamers got 1-2 matches (except sober Chuck who got a 2-1 victory), one guy got a zero (but it was against Kenny), and Brian Vignon was the only 'O' to get a 3-0 hat trick. Paul and Ricky won in the beer frame against Brian and Dwayne. This is really starting to sound like a word problem, or riddle. "What is the final score?" Answer: 12-9 Outaws.

All scoresheets are entered and accounted for! The standings are now current and final. Because of the close final match they ironically played against eachother in the final week, the Playa's and Bulldogs finished in a tie for total points. The tie breaker then goes to overall record, which the Playa's have a better one, so that makes the Down Lo squad the #2 seed in the Solids Conference and the Oasis team the #3 seed. They will, again ironically, play eachother the first round of the playoffs, and since the Playa's are the higher seed they will play at home on Table #10. This worked out well - if the Bulldogs were the home team that would have made four matches at the Oasis this Thursday - very crowded, and using table #4 or #5 - technically not regular tables. If Bankers would have been #6 seed, we would of had to have 5 matches at the Oasis! Something to think of next year at the Captain's meeting for sure. Just to note - it looks like the A-Trophy champion will be from either the Oasis or Down Lo - no other bars are involved in that tournament, just FYI.

A complete playoff tournament bracket has been posted online here on our website under the 'Downloads' section (green column to the left), or click on the brackets image above to enlarge and then right-click to save as a .jpeg. Another copy will be posted at the Oasis and sent to everyone in my email list, as well as the final standings and top shooter standings (after the coin flip - see below).

The Top Shooter list has also been updated online. There is a tie in that as well. Philo Hunt and Eric Nichols are tied percentage-wise for fifth place. They are also tied in the first tie-breaker (total # of wins). So it goes to a 2nd tie-breaker which is a coin flip I'll be administering Monday morning with Stacy Schaefer and maybe Barney as witnesses. Winner of the flip will be the true #5 seed in the tournament, loser of the flip the #6 seed. UPDATE: Stacy and Barney witnessed the flip - Philo won the flip and is #5 seed, Eric is #6 seed.

I guess that's it for now. I'll update more through the week if necessary. Good luck to all teams this Thursday for the playoffs.

REMEMBER - the playoffs are a race to 11. That's it, no need to play after that. So captains plan accordingly when making your lineup. And remember the home team only needs to put up one player at a time and the visiting club puts up their pick after that. Beer frames are optional and up to the two teams/bars to decide if they want to play them or not after the 4th match like normal. I believe all new players have added in the appropriate time span and have played in the legal minimum 6 nights (except for Nate on my team, and Brandon F. on the Bulldogs - I need to check his - he's real close, 5 regular nights. I just need to see if he played a 'beer-frame-only' night in addition to his 5 matches) and are paid for. No subs/new players here on out. Captains - be careful that your players are eligible - it is your responsibility, and ignorance is not an excuse. Illegal players can result in a match forfeit - not just their games, the entire match!

Week #18 In The Books
Mar 31, 2016, 6:22 pm

Sorry, sounding like a broken record, but all stats are entered from Week #18 - we are up to date. Just no time for recaps or printouts. The Top Shooter list online still needs to be updated and I'll get to that ASAP. Printouts were emailed last week, so they should be more current than the web's top shooter list, until I get to it.

Sorry, thanks for your patience. Just tonight and next week - then the playoffs!
