Week #23 Results
Apr 24, 2014, 3:30 pm

Here's what happened last week (4/17):

The Empire club was home out in Durham last week as the Bulldogs made the trek south. The teams were tied at 6 at the end of the first half. James, Mike, and Casey each got 2 wins for the Empire, but Captain Steve got 3 wins for his 'Dogs. Ty and Ed beat Matt and DJ in the beer frame 2-0. In the bottom frames, the Bulldogs got a few more wins than the Empire and came out with a 12-9 victory. Dennis also had a 3-0 win for the road team.

The next closest team to the Empire, the Tackle Box, was home hosting the Rack Pack of Last Call. This match was all Tackle Box as they had the match won before the beer frame. With almost a perfect sweep from the 1-4 shooters, the 'Box was up 11-1 thanks to Bob Cody, Joe, and Richie getting 3-0 victories. The Rack Pack did get the beer frame though, Gary and Mike beat Bob C. and Jonny 2-0. Last Call made it slightly more respectable by getting 6 of the final 9 points. Final score: Tackle Box 15, Last Call 6.

The Outlaws of Oasis were on the road last week and took on the Duffy's Tavern crew. It was very close in the first half as the Outlaws were up just 7-5. Kenny, Rusty, and Ricky each got 2-1 victories, Ed Theis got a 2-1 victory for his team. Mike Karol and Greg won the beer frame 2-1 against Kevin and Ice Cream. Kevin stayed at the table and got 2 for his Tavern making the score 8-7 Outlaws, but Bulldog then got 3 wins and Mike Karol rounded out the night with 2 more propelling the Oasis team to a 13-8 victory.

Downstairs at the Down Lo, the Playa's were hosting the Oasis O-Team. Identical to the Outlaw/Duffy's match, it was close in the first half as the Playa's were only up 7-5. Larry, Dave, and Kevin Cibart each got 2-1 wins, and Sean Wasson got 2 wins for the Oasis. James and Joel won the beer frame for the O-Team, beating Jason and Leland 2-1. That loss by the Playa's should tighten up the beer frame standings between them and the Outlaws. In the back half it was all Playa's as they recorded 7 of the final 9 points. Jason got 3, Leland got 2, and Leo got 2. Final score: 14-7 Playa's.

Also at the Down Lo, the Stickmen were taking on the 3rd Down Lo team, the Damned, on table 5. The Stickmen jumped out to a large 9-3 lead at the beer frame - Cele got 2, Wheez got 2, and Keith got 2. Brian Norman had the hot hand and got all 3 of his games. Paul Wall and Scott beat Pat and Wei in the beer frame, 2-0. Scott stayed at the table and got 2 wins to get the Stickmen to 11. Sundy added one more, but the Damned got 6 of the final 9 to make the final score Stickmen 12, Damned 9.

The Bankers were home at the Oasis as the Eagles Club made their way over as the visiting team. The teams were sparring back and forth in the front half - Jim W. got 3 for Oasis, but COX came back and got 3 for the Eagles. Then Mark Murgia got 2 for Oasis, but Bobbo came back and got 2 for the Eagles. At the end of 4 it was tied 6-6. COX and Donny got the beer frame 2-0 against George and Barney. But in the bottom half the Eagles threw some heavy punches, including Chuck's 3-0 haymaker, and knocked out the Bankers. The judges had it 13-8 Eagles.

The Dragons had the bye week on April 17th, the Eagles have the week off this Thursday, April 24th.

Good luck to everyone else - final 3 regular season matches for the year!

Week #22 Results
Apr 14, 2014, 1:27 am

Here's what happened last week, April 10th (Week #22):

The Oasis Outlaws were home taking on the Eagles squad. It was all Outlaws as they won big, 16-5. Kenny Duff and Izzy each had 3-0 wins, and everyone else on the Oasis roster had 2-1 wins. Mike Karol and Kenny Duff beat Robin and David Napier 2-1 in the beer frame.

The Empire Club was home hosting the visiting Down Lo Damned. It was a close match but the Empre ended up on top, 11-10. Tony started off the Down Lo Damned's night with a 3-0 win to help the Damned get to an 8-4 lead at the break. Rob and Don got the road beer frame win against Casey and Matt. But in the bottom frames, it was all Empire as they won 7 of the final 9 games. Captain Casey got all 3 of his games to help his team's cause in the 6th frame.

The Stickmen were home taking on the Oasis Bankers. The Oasis squad was up 8-4 at the break. Brian Norman started things right for the Stickmen getting all 3 of his games, but Jon A. equalized it by getting all 3 of his for the Bankers. It was 10-8 Bankers after Stickmen Keith and Madsack each got 2 wins, but Barney came up big by kicking my ass 3-0 and getting the final score to 13-8 Bankers.

The Bulldogs were taking on their barmates, the Dragons, last week. Paul put his 'Dogs up 7-5 at the break thanks to his 3-0 win. Ty and Robbie defeated Steve H. and Aaron in the beer frame, 2-0. Steve Hambek got all 3 in the 5th match to get the score to 8-7 Dragons, but Keith and Steve stormed back for the Bulldogs and each got 3 wins in the final 2 matches to propel the 'Dogs to a 13-8 victory.

The Oasis O-Team was home taking on the Rack pack of Last Call. It was all Oasis all the time as they won 15-6. Jimmy, Stacy, and James each had back-to-back-to-back 3-0 wins to start the night 9-0. Gary stopped the bleeding with 2 wins to get the half time score to 10-2 Oasis. James and Jimmy beat Kevin Nickas and Curtis in the beer frame, 2-0. Joel then got the winning 11th and 12th points in the 5th match, and Aaron added 3 more in the 6th spot. Rack Pack Mike got it from disastrous to pretty bad with 3 wins in the final frame.

The Tacklebox was on fire and all over the Duffy's backs last week. Thanks to Pop's 3-0 win, and Joe's 2-1 win, the 'Box was up 7-5 at the break. Joe and Richie kept the momentum going by winning the beer frame 2-0 against Ed and Prana. Ed did right the Duffy's ship by getting 3 wins in the 5th frame, and Prana got 2 in the 6th frame. But Tackle Box Richie came up big in the 7th frame, with Duffy's on the proverbial 'hill', and won all 3 to send the Alligator Humpers into the lead and the final 11-10 victory.

The Playa's were on their bye week April 10th, and the Dragons will get their bye week out of the way this Thursday, April 17th. Good luck to everyone else. Only 4 games/nights to go (unless you haven't had your bye week yet)! The top 8 teams are in the Real Deal playoffs, teams ranked 9-13 are in the Not So Big Deal playoffs. In the regular playoffs, 1 plays 8, 2 plays 7, 3 plays 6, and 4 plays 5. In the bottom half playoffs (pending captain approval), there will be a separate wild card game with 12 seed and 13 seed playing to see who plays the 9 seed in week 2. 10 plays 11 seed in the second week of playoffs as well.

The current standings and printouts are attached as well as posted at the Oasis. Online is 100% complete and up to date. Thanks for your patience. Let me know if you see any errors - last chance

Week #21 Results
Apr 14, 2014, 12:40 am

Continuing the catch-up process...

Here's what happened in Week #21 (April 3rd):

The Rack Pack were home at the Last Call as the Oasis Bulldogs were on the road. The teams traded 2-1 wins to make the score 6-6 at the break. Chris and Ty won the beer frame for the 'Dogs 2-0. It was all Bulldogs in the second half as Dennis got 2 and Robbie and Steve got 3-0 wins to make the final score 14-7 Oasis.

The Bankers were also at home at the Oasis taking on the Tackle Box. Mark Edwards started the Bankers on the right track winning all 3 of his games, but Richie got all 3 of his in the 4th match to make the score 7-5 Bankers at the beer frame. Jon and Mark beat Bob Strobel and Kent in the scotch doubles match 2-1. Jon stayed at the table and got all 3 of his wins to get the Bankers to 10 points. The Bankers were short a player again so they had to win one more in the 6th and final match to get a win, and Barney did just that plus one more to get the Bankers to a shorthanded 12-9 win.

The Eagles were home against the Oasis O-Team on April 3rd. The match was a close 7-5 contest at the break thanks to James V.'s 3-0 Oasis win. Jimmy and Joel beat Bobby and Jon in the beer frame 2-0. Robin got 2 in the 5th frame, but Mike Clarke got 3 wins in the 6th frame and Stacy rounded out the night with 2 wins to get the O-Team a 13-8 victory.

The Dragons were in a dog fight at the Oasis against the Durham Empire Club. The Empire was up big at the break, 8-4, thanks to James' 3-0 win and Matt V.'s 2-1 win - one of them via an 8-ball break-and-run. James stayed at the table and was joined by Matt to beat Steve and Aaron 2-1 in the beer frame. Kenny got 2 for the Dragons to make it 9-6 Empire. DJ added 2 more for the visitors to get them to 11 points and the win. Jeff Brun finished the night for the Dragons with a 3-0 win, but it was one short as the Empire won 11-10 in the end.

In a Down Lo matchup, the Damned were up against the tough Playa's. The 1st place team was up 9-3 at the break thanks to Kevin Cibart's 3-0 win. Leland and Tom defeated Stephen Wells and Cooper in the beer frame, 2-1. Tom stayed at the table and recorded the Playa's 10th and 11th points. Jason Colabove and Leo chipped in 2 more each to get the final score to 15-6 Playa's.

Also at the Down Lo, the Stickmen were taking on the Oasis Outlaws. The Stickmen were up 4-2 after Cele and Brian Norman's 2-1 wins, but it was all Outlaws the rest of the way. Bulldog and Gregg got 3-0 wins in the first half, and Kenny and Izzy each got 3-0 wins in the second half. Mike Brandt and Kenny beat Sundy and Doc in the beer frame. Final score, 16-5 Outlaws.

The Duffy's crew was on their bye week on April 3rd.

April 10th results coming real soon...

Week #19 and #20 Results
Apr 14, 2014, 12:38 am

In an attempt to get things caught back up, here's the final 2 missing games from week #19 (March 20th):

The Oasis O-Team was home hosting the Down Lo Damned. It was even in the first half, 6-6, thanks to James V.'s 3-0 win for the O-Team, and Steve McGrill's 3-0 win for the Down Lo. Mike Clarke came back in the 5th spot to win all 3 games. Jimmy and Joel followed with 2 each to get the Oasis' team score to 13, the Damned settled with 8 wins. Mike and Joel beat Steve and Yuli for the beer frame honors, 2-0.

The Dragons were also at home at the Oasis facing the Oasis Outlaws. It was close at the break as the Outlaws were up 'only' 7-5. The Dragon's Steve and Jeff got the beer frame, beating Kenny and Bulldog 2-0. In the second half, Kenny, Bulldog, and Mike Karol each got 2 wins to make the final score 13-8 Outlaws.

Here are the results for Week #20 (March 27th):

In a heavyweight match up at the Down Lo, the Playa's welcomed in the Oasis Outlaws. The teams were tied at the break 6-6. Charles, Leland, and Kevin C. each got 2-1 wins, and Mike Brandt got 3 for his Outlaws before the beer frame. In what must have been a 'must see' beer frame, Leo and Leland beat Kenny and Gregg 2-1. Gregg stayed at the table and got 2 for the Oasis but Leo came back up and got 2 for the Playa's making the score 9-9 going into the final frame. Mike Karol came up big with 3 win to get the Outlaws to a win and more, beating the Playa's 12-9.

The Bulldogs won big against the Down Lo Stickmen 14-7. Dennis, Brenon, and Paul Airth each got 3-0 wins, all in the first half. Cal got all 3 of his against Ty to start the 2nd half. Keith got 2, and Scott got only 1 against Steve to finish the night. Scott and Cal couldn't even win one game against Steve and Ed for the beer frame.

Duffy's was home against the Eagles. Teams traded 2-1 wins all through the first half to make the score 6-6 at the break. In the beer frame, Ed and Prana beat the Eagle's Jon and Chuck 2-1. Prana and Ed came up big in the second half getting 3-0 wins each to help the cause. Steve Swim ended a 0-14 streak by getting a big win in his 3rd match - a perfect birthday present for him! Hopefully that will swing his season back on his normally solid track. Final score 13-8 Duffy's.

The Bankers only fielded 6 players, but snuck out of their bar with a close 10-11 loss against the Last Call Rack Pack. Jim Wilson started the night with a 3-0 win for the Bankers, but Matt Altenberg wiped that out with 3 of his own in the 3rd match. Out of players, Barney almost got the shorthanded win as he won his first 2 games of the 6th and final match. With the Oasis on the hill 10-8, Mike D. found a way to beat Barney and get the important 8th point. Add on 3 more by forfeit and the Rack Pack ended up on top 11-10 in the end.

The Oasis O-Team welcomed the Empire Club into Chico with a 12-9 win. James V. and Brian V. each got 3-0 hat tricks in the first half to get their O-Team to 9 points at the half. Jimmy and Joel couldn't beat the Empire tandem of James and DJ as they won free beer 2-0. Tom got 2 in the back-half for the Empire, James got 3 more, and DJ chipped in 1, but the comeback came up short as the Oasis won 12-9.

At the Tackle Box, the Alligator Humpers were playing the Oasis Dragons. It was a lop-sided win for the Dragons as they won 17-4. Aaron Smith, Steve Hambek, and Kenny Smith each had 3-0 wins. Jeff and Steve beat Bob and Kent for the beer frame win 2-0.

Sorry for the delay - April 3rd results are coming shortly...

Week #19 Results
Mar 27, 2014, 1:48 am

Here's what happened in week #19 (March 20th):

The Tackle Box made the trip out to Durham last week to take on the Empire. Germain got 3 in the first half to get the Empire to 8 at the break, as well as James and Casey's 2 pointers. Tackle Box scotch doubles teammates Bob Strobel and Kent got the beer frame 2-0 against Troy and DJ. Besides Pops' 2 points, it was all Empire in the second-half. Tom and DJ each had 3-0 wins to get the home team's final score to 15, Tackle Box had 6.

On the complete other side of the CMPL map, the Last Call Rack Pack hosted the Eagles. The two teams were tied at 6-6 going into the beer frame. Donny helped his Eagles squad with a 3-0 win. Chuck and Jon Cox got the beer frame 2-0 against Curtis and Rob of the 'Pack. Chuck, Jon, and Robin all got 2-1 wins in the bottom frames to seal the win, 12-9 Eagles.

Downstairs at the Down Lo, the Playa's almost had a skunk against the Oasis Bankers. Charles, the Kevins, Leland, and Jason each had 3-0 wins. Dave and Kevin C. won the beer frame 2-0 against George and Mark. Mark did have 1 win, but it was the only one on the visitor's side of the scoresheet. The Bankers forgot a player at the Oasis and only fielded 6, which didn't help the cause. Final score: Playa's 20, Bankers 1.

Also at the Down Lo was the match between the Stickmen and Duffy's. The front-half was even at 6 as each team had their own 3-0 shooter: Baback for Duffy's, and Brian Norman for the Down Lo. Cele and Scott couldn't beat Ice Cream and Ed in the beer frame, as they won the free beer 2-0. Ed and Ice Cream each got 2 to start the second half, putting them on the hill up 10-8. Keith shot last for the Stickmen and came up big getting all 3 and propelling the Stickmen to an 11-10 come from behind win.

I just got back from Vegas this (Wednesday) evening and obviously haven't been able to make it to the Oasis to pick up the scoresheets from the 2 remaining O teams that were at home last week (Dragons vs. Outlaws and O-Team vs. The Damned). I assume they are in the box waiting for me and I will update this post and the stats Thursday afternoon.

This week the Down Lo Damned are on their bye week. Good luck to everyone else.

Week #18 Results
Mar 19, 2014, 1:18 am

Getting back on schedule, here's what happened in week #18 - March 13th, 2014:

Leading off the stories of the week has to be the outcome of the Playa's vs. Stickmen matchup. In the past, the Stickmen (or previously Wild Hare, or Quackers, or Nick's) has come up just short a couple times versus the Playa's or their equivalent moniker, but hasn't broken the 11 point barrier. Finally, last week, the Stickmen were able to crack the code and get by the Down Lo Playa's, beating them 12-9. Yes some rolls went their way, yes luck came into play a few times. It happens in all wins. But when it all comes down to it, quoting Leland, skill always outlasts luck. On this night everything clicked and the decision came out in the Stickmen's favor. No it wasn't a playoff game, just a regular night, but the Stickmen were able to enjoy it just as sweet. The teams were tied in the first half 6-6 as teams traded 2-1 wins. Cal and Brian each won 2 during their matches. Doc and Madsack lost to Leland and Dave in the beer frame, 2-0. In the bottom half, where it counted, Cele came through clutch-style getting all 3 of his games to put the Stickmen up 9-6. Keith got 1 getting the Stickmen to the hill - making it 10-7. “All through the night, I was thinking ‘OK, we got 6 against them. We’re good. Ok, we got 9 against them. We can live with that. But as it got closer to the final matches, I was like ‘Whoa. We might get this thing!”, Scott stated in a post-match interview. Then the closer, the Wheezel Dog, came in and got 2 more, including the capping 11th and 12th points. To all other teams, as the Bulldogs know, the Playa's are beatable. It's not even close to easy, but possible. Hopefully this biased rant makes other teams a little more confident going up against these skilled shooters. Anything can happen on any given night.

"In other news..."

Duffy's was home taking on the Empire of Durham. The infamous 10 or 11 pointers, aka Duffy's, was down 4-8 at the half. James got 3 wins for the Empire, one of them via an 8-ball break and run, and Tom got 3 himself. Casey and Matt beat Ed and Shawn in the beer frame, 2-1. In the second-half it was all Duffy's as they got 7 of the final 9 points. Ice Cream got 2 scoops, Kevin got 3, and Evan finished it off with 2 on his end. Final score was another close one for Duffy's, victorious this time 11-10.

The Dragons were home versus the Rack Pack of Last Call. This one was ALL Dragons. Krad, Micah, Aaron, and Steve Hambek all had 3-0 wins to help their squad post a 17-4 victory. Matt and Mike had the last laugh though, they beat Aaron and Steve to earn free beer from the scotch doubles match.

The Bankers were also involved in a fairly lop-sided match as they lost to the Oasis Bulldogs 15-6. It didn't help that they were short one player. Chris was the lone 3-0 winner for the 'Dogs as almost everyone else had 2-1 wins. Ed and Dennis did lose the beer frame though - Russ and Barney beat them 2-0.

Continuing the rough matches, the Oasis Outlaws opened up the throttle and beat the Tackle Box 17-4 on the 'Humper's own table. Everybody on the Oasis team had 2 wins, except Brian, Joel, and Mike Clarke - they each had 3-0 wins. Coincidentally enough, in this match as it was in the other 2 big beatings, the Tackle Box also won the beer frame. Bob and Kent beat the tough match-up of James and Joel, 2-1.

Over at the Eagles clubhouse, things were a lot closer. The two teams were tied at 6-6 going into the break. Donny, Bobby, and Bobbo each had 2 wins for the Eagles in the 1-2-3 spots, but Stephen Wells put a stop to that with a 3-0 win for his team in the 4th spot, tying up the score at 6. Rob and Tony won the beer frame against Robin and Jon, 2-1. The Eagles then got a streak of 2-1 games in the bottom-half and ended up on top 12-9. There was some heated discussion in the 5th spot as it was supposed to be Robin's break after the beer frame, but nobody was paying attention and Yuli broke and almost ran out. He eventually won that game, and after they noticed the error in break schedule, and with no amicable decision made between the captains (besides letting Robin break the next two games), they contacted me for a ruling. Nothing covered this in our rules, so I made the decision to keep the win for Yuli, since this similarly resembled rule 1-23.2 in the 2012-2014 BCA rule book. Quoting, "Any foul not called before the next stroke is taken is considered to have not occurred." Technically I guess it's a foul on Yuli for shooting out of turn, but it wasn't called. Yes this leaves an opening for unsportsmanlike play to occur - someone maliciously "quick-breaking" and calling ‘ignorance', or "my bad", but I'm assuming those players don't play in our league and this will not occur again. We'll further discuss this at next year's captains meeting to get it in our ever-evolving rule book.

The Outlaws were on the bye last week, the Bulldogs get the week off this week.

Good luck to everyone else. Print-outs will be posted on Wednesday at the Oasis. Everything online is up to date, except top shooter and beer frame tracker. Soon! I promise.

-Scott-

Week #17 Results
Mar 18, 2014, 1:40 am

Okay, sorry again. I got behind, but here's the results from week #17, March 6th, including (edited) the Tackle Box home bout - I forgot Stephen Wells had sent me the results.

The Oasis O-Team faced off against the Bulldogs in an inter-bar bout. It was close, but the Bulldogs pulled it out in the end with an 11-10 win. Stacy got all 3 of his matches, as did Dennis. Mike C. and Joel won the beer frame 2-0 against Steve and Robbie. The teams were tied at 10 after James got 2 in the final frame, but Keith got the final and important 11th point in the final inning.

The Dragons and Bankers were also both at home at the Oasis. Both Jims for each team got 3-0 wins in the top half to make it 7-5 Dragons at the break. Jeff Brun and Aaron got the beer frame against Barney and Bill, 2-1. Kenny wrapped up the night with a 3-0 showing to make the final score 13-8 Dragons.

Last Call was at home versus the Duffy's Tavern in a very close match. Prana got 3 wins to help his team go into the beer frame up 7-5. Ed and Kevin K. got the beer frame 2-1 against Curtis and Mike D. But the 'Pack came back strong in the bottom frames getting 7 of the final 9 points. Kevin got 3 wins to help his team record a final score of 11 to Duffy's 10.

The Empire welcomed the Oasis Outlaws to Durham, and the Outlaws left with a 15-6 win. Ricky and Kenny finished the night strong with 3-0 wins for each of them. Izzy and Greg beat Casey and Matt in the beer frame 2-1.

The Playa's were home at the Down Lo taking on the Eagles squad. The Playa's jumped out to a 9-3 lead half-way through thanks to Charles and Kevin C.'s 3-0 hat tricks. Leland and Leo teamed up to beat Jon and David Napier 2-0 in the scotch doubles match. Larry and Leo got 2 each in the final half, and Tom Leclaire came up big with an impressive 3-0 win to help his team record a final score of 16-5.

Sorry - Stephen sent me the score sheet for this match via text and I forgot that I had it: The Tackle Box was home versus the Damned Loungers on the 6th. If it wasn't for Richie's 3-0 showing, it would have been an even worse night as he scored half of the 'Box's points. Tony, Pat, and Yuli each had their own 3-0 wins for the Down Lo squad. Don and Stephen W. beat Richie and Charlie 2-1 in the beer frame. Final score was 15-6 Down Lo Damned.

The Stickmen were on their bye week.

Sorry again for the delay. I have all of the score sheets for March 13th entered and I'll post the results probably Tuesday night, Wednesday at the latest, as well as the printouts emailed and posted.

-Scott-
