Playoff Update
Jun 5, 2023, 11:02 am

Ok, Round 2 of the playoffs has come and gone:

The  #2 Seed Bulldogs beat the #3 Seed Damned 10-5 at the Oasis, May 25th.

The #1 Seed Outlaws beat the #5 Seed Playa's 10-8 in a very close match. Greggy Bear had to get all 3 of his games in the final frame to secure the win (2 for another tie-breaker match) - and 3 he got.

That moved the Oasis Outlaws on to the Championships to play the Bulldogs - June 8th at the Oasis, 7:00pm.

The two losing teams (The Damned and Playa's) played eachother last Thursday for the 3rd/4th Place match. That match was all Damned as they beat the Playa's 10-2 for the 3rd Place honors. Congratulations Damned!

So three things left: Championship Thursday, June 8th at the Oasis, Charles Lintz Top Shooter Tournament Saturday, June 10th at the Down Lo (1:00pm start), and the Pool Party at the Down Lo Saturday June 24th, 1:00pm. Come and watch!

Playoffs Round 1
May 24, 2023, 12:14 pm

Round 1 of the playoffs is complete - Round 2 begins on Thursday at the Oasis

Last week the #3 seed The Damned took on the #6 seed Down Lo Stickmen for the 1st round of the playoffs. It was a close match all the way through - each team traded 2-1 wins/losses all the way through. At one point the Stickmen were up 7-6, but Goran roared back and got 2, then Tony Tokarski played anchor and got the next 2 to secure the 10-7 victory. The Damned will travel to the Oasis to take on the Bulldogs.

The #2 seed bulldogs were playing the #7 seed Nor Cal Rack Pack at the Oasis last Thursday. It was all Bulldogs as they won 10-3 moving on to the 2nd round versus The Damned.

The #1 seed Oasis Outlaws were home versus their barmates, the #8 seeded Oasis O-Team. It wasn't pretty, unless you were a Bulldog. The final score was 10-1 Outlaws. Props to Aaron Rooney for getting the one point and avoiding the shut-out. The Outlaws will be home against the Playa's this week.

In the most exciting match of the first round, the #4 seeded Playa's were home taking on the #5 seeded Duffy's squad. It was back and forth all night and even down to the last match. Ed Theis was able to score a 9th point in the final frame to push the teams to a scotch doubles tie breaker. Kevin and Kelly were up against Ed and Kevin Kinell in a race to two. Even that went back and forth as both teams scored a win to force a final 3rd match for the win. Kelly and Kevin were able to finish the task and punch their ticket to the Oasis to take on the Outlaws.

So come down to the Oasis this Thursday to see the 2nd round teams battle it out on adjoining tables. Winners play each other for the Championship, losers play each other for 3rd/4th place.

Final Part 1
May 12, 2023, 12:58 pm

All score sheets have been accounted for and entered. We are FINAL. So the Standings (left hand column, click on "Teams & Standings") is the final turnout.

Looks like the Rack Pack held on to 7th place and will play the Bulldogs in the playoffs Thursday - at the Oasis, table #2. The Pack scored a big 16-3 victory in the 2nd to last week to cement their hold on a playoff berth.

The Original O's had a great showing versus the defending champions, the Bulldogs, and scored a 9-10 loss, but those 9 points secured them the #8 playoff position. They will be taking on the #1 seed Oasis Outlaws this next Thursday, at the Oasis, Table #1.

All the other standings remained the same, they have been pretty much locked for a few weeks now, but here's the other four team's schedule for this Thursday:

The Damned, who won 19-0 in their final match last night (I think it's the only 19-0 victory of the year) will be the #3 seed and will take on the Down Lo Stickmen, the #6 seeded team, at the Down Lo, this Thursday, table #10.

The Playa's ended up in the 4th spot, leapfrogging the idle Duffy's (on their bye week) who end up as the 5th seed. So Playa's vs. Duffy's at the Down Lo this Thursday, table #5.

The calendar schedule is now up to date as well.

I also need to find out from the higher seed captains which tables they want for the first round (Outlaws and Bulldogs need to decide which table, I assume 1 or 2), and The Playa's and The Damned need to figure out who plays on table 10 or table 5.

The Charles Lintz Top Shooter list is almost final (see below). There is a 3-way tie for 8th place so we need to draw names out of a 'hat' shortly to see where they landed (Scott, Gregg, and Philo). Looks like 2 of them will play eachother (8th and 9th seed), and the other one will play Derek as the 10th seed. We'll do that draw this Thursday at the Down Lo before the playoff match. 5/17 EDIT: Ed Theis was accidentally omitted! Ed is #15, Curt is now #16, Tree is now 1st alternate.

Last Night!
May 11, 2023, 4:44 pm

Ok, down to the last night of the regular season!

All score sheets are entered - standings up to date, statistics up to date, Top Shooter Tournament contestants up to date.

Still anyone's call as to who will end up with the 7th and final 8th playoff spot - all 4 teams still within a few points of eachother - Rack Pack, Oasis O's, Bankers, and Hateful 8.

Please turn in your scoresheets by picture text ASAP so I can get the final standings and statistics in by hopefully tomorrow - playoffs start next Thursday! Highest seed team is home for the playoff matchups. The bars can figure it out amongst themselves if they want, but I propose the highest seeeded team picks which table to play on (for Down Lo and Oasis teams).

All for now - good luck tonight!

Apr 30, 2023, 7:20 pm

...and down the stretch they come!

Down to our last 2 weeks of the regular season! All the score sheets are entered, the standings are up to date, stats and top shooters are all current.

Top 16 top shooter list could still change the last 2 weeks - remember, you need to have 51 games (17 matches) played to be eligible, and in the top 16. Aaron Rooney, Goran Westerdahl, and Leo Oviedo are all eligible percentage-wise, but they need to play the last game or two to be at 70% games played, so be careful! And good luck! Also, don't forget, the number 17 and 18 (and 19) contestants are alternates, so don't give up - you still might make it in if someone doesn't show or can't make the tournament! It's on Saturday, June 10th, 1:00pm!

We have essentially a 4-way tie for the final team playoff position! The Bankers, Hateful 8, Original O's, and Rack Pack are ALL WITHIN 2 POINTS of eachother and the 8th and final playoff spot! We even have some head-to-head matchups of some of those teams coming in the next two weeks! Should be some exciting games. The other top 7 teams are pretty much locked in place, except for Playa's and Duffy's - they are within 2 points for 4th and 5th spot. Either way they will probably play eachother, it would just determine home-field. Duffy's still has a bye the last week, so more than likely Playa's will secure that 4th spot. But we'll see...

So if you're team is locked in, or you're locked in to a top shooter position, come and watch some of these other exciting match-ups the last two weeks!

Remember - the Pool League post season is different than on the paper schedules/calendars now! Throw those paper sheets away and just go by the website schedule!

Good luck and have fun!

Update
Apr 10, 2023, 3:30 pm

Happy Spring and Easter to everyone!

Ok, all of the score sheets have been entered, we're all up to the minute. The standings and stats are all current and can be found using the shortcuts in the green area on the left-hand side of the website pages.

Reminder, to see everyone in the league on one 'page' in the stat list, be sure to follow this work-around: green 'statistics' tab, click on any team in the 'team filter' drop down box at the top. Once that team loads, go back to 'team filter' and select 'all teams'. Then you can click on any column heading (percentage to see the top shooters, BFW (beer frame wins) to see the leader in that category, break and runs, etc.). If you select just 'all teams' before doing the above work-around, it will for some reason show the first 100 on one page, and the other 40+ players on a 2nd page, and it won't be right. Just trust me, do the work around, sorry about that. Just a web-site limitation.

I have updated the Top Shooter page - obviously click on 'Top Shooters - 4-10-23' in the green column. It shows the top 25 or so Top Shooter Tournament eligible players. Again, you need to play in 70% of the total possible matches to be eligible. Currently, 70% is around 39 total games played, or 13 matches, so far, to be on the list. By the end of the season, those that can compete must have 51 total games played (or 17 matches) and be in the top 16 with their winning percentage. Those 16 players will hopefully play in front of Charles Lintz in his 8th Annual Charles Lintz Top shooter Tournament at the Down Lo, on Saturday June 10th, 1:00pm.

I highlighted the Saturday June 10th above because I have made some changes to the post-season schedule. These changes were made mainly due to Chico Unified moving Grad Night from Thursday June 1st to Friday June 2nd. I had skipped that night initially on the schedule for that reason. The changes are reflected on the website, but are incorrect still on the paper schedules in/on your captain's binder, so please take note. Here is the updated post-season schedule:

Chico Pool League 2023 Post-Season

  • Last Regular Season matches: Thursday, May 11th (unchanged)
  • Last date to report discrepencies/errors the website may have: Sunday, May 14th
  • Playoffs Round 1: Thursday, May 18th - Top 8 teams (points, not wins/losses) - see the schedule for updated teams and locations as we get closer to the date.
  • Playoffs Round 2: Thursday, May 25th - Winning teams from round 1 (locations TBD)
  • 3rd/4th Place Match: Thursday, June 1st - Losing teams from round 2 (location TBD)
  • Championship Match: Thursday, June 8th - Winning teams from round 2 (location TBD), **possibly June 1st with the 3rd/4th place match if it works out being the same bar/location**

All locations will be determined by the highest seed playing - that higher seed will play at home

  • Charles Lintz Top Shooter Tournament: Saturday, June 10th, 1:00pm, at the Down Lo
  • End of the Year Pool Party Awards Banquet: Saturday, June 24th, 1:00pm, at the Down Lo (unchanged)

Again, the website is correct, the paper schedules are not. Please pass the word.

Not sure if it's been claimed yet or not, but we found a pair of cues in a case at the Down Lo a few weeks ago and they might still be there. So if you lost yours, and you can identify these, talk to Oscar and get them back!

Tables #4 and #5 at the Down Lo have had their pockets replaced, we plan on doing table #10 here shortly. Another 3 tables-worth of pockets are on order and will be completed ASAP - so hopefully no more tripping on leaked balls shortly!

This post was also emailed out on 4/10 - if you didn't get it, check your spam folder. If you need to give me your email for the mailing list, you can contact me with the details at chicomenspoolleague@gmail.com

Good luck this week!

-Scott-

5 Weeks In!
Dec 5, 2022, 11:54 pm

Ok, we're 5 weeks in! 5 Teams have had their 'bye' weeks, 8 still need to take theirs, so use caution when viewing the standings.

All score sheets have been entered so all standings and statistics should be up to date.

We're entering our 6th week of the season and I still need payment from 4 teams. Thank you to the other 9 teams. The following teams have so far avoided the "no pay" penalty which was supposed to be enforced after week #2 (10-0 match forfeits):

Oasis O-Team

Oasis Outlaws

Oasis Hateful-8

Tacklebox Alligator Humpers

This could change the standings, so be sure to get your payment in and receipt in hand ASAP!

Good luck this week!

-Scott-
