Week #11 Results
Jan 26, 2011, 1:22 am

Here it is - the end of the first half!

Here are the results for Week #11:

The Bulldogs were home against the Empire Club. The Empire was up big at the half - thanks to Eric and Pat getting all 3 of their games. Ed and Ray came back and won the Beer Frame against James and Paul. Then the Bulldogs roared back and won the next 6 games, thanks to Dennis and Frank getting all 3 of theirs. The match was 9-9 now going into the final frame. Ed got the first one to take the 'Dogs to the hill at 10-9, but Ty took care of business and won the final two giving the 'Club an 11-10 victory.

Also at the Oasis, the Original O's were hosting their in-bar rivals - the 8-Ballers. In a back-and-forth first half, Rob started the night getting 3 for his 'Ballers, but Josh struck back and got 3 for his O's. Brian shot third and got 2 for the 8-Ballers, but Leland came out and got 3 for the Originals, leaving the halftime score at 7-5, Oasis O's. Rob and Matt got the beer frame honors, defeating Josh and James. The second-half belonged to the O's as Troy and Stacy each got 2, and Slade got 1 giving the O's a 12-9 win.

The Hammerheads were at home enjoying some sweet karaoke and hosting the Oasis Dragons last Thursday. The Dragons came in singing 'We Will Rock You' and left singing 'We Are The Champions' as they got in their cars with a 14-7 win on the road. Steve and Micah helped the cause with 3-0 hat tricks, and Brenon and Nate Dog got the Beer Frame leaving Kris and Jerry with empty glasses.

The Towne Lounge II crew were at home hosting their downstairs neighbors, the Down Lo Stickmen. The score was 7-5 Lounge at the half, thanks to Rusty's 3-win performance. Lounge Captain Ed and Steve Hale won the Beer Frame, stealing the last two games from Keith and Cele. In the bottom half, the Stickmen made it close, but couldn't seal the deal, as the Lounge II came away with a close 11-10 victory.

At the same time at the Down Lo, the other Towne Lounge team was playing the other Down Lo team. The results weren't nearly as close, as the Playa's handed the Lounge I shooters a 14-7 whoopin'. Henry Dorsey started the night with a 3-0 win, then Charles came to bat and got all 3. New Playa' addition Gilbert got 2, and top shooter Kevin got 1 to give the Playa's a 9-3 lead going into the Beer Frame. Charles and Gilbert teamed up to beat Jason and Stephen for a home Beer Frame win. In the second half, Jason C. got all 3 of his to pretty much make it official.

Okay - first half is done. It's time to start over and do it right for the second-half. Check out the standings - it's still wide open. There is only a 16 point difference between 2nd and 10th place - 8 points between 3rd and 8th place! The schedule starts over again, but the home bar is reversed. The new team - the Towne Lounge II - will be the first team on the bye week again. Good luck!

Week #10 Results
Jan 18, 2011, 2:30 am

Almost down to the end of the first half - here's the results for week #10:

The Stickmen of the Down Lo were at home hosting the Oasis Bulldogs. In a close match, the Stickmen and 'Dogs were tied 6-6 at the break, thanks to Down Lo Larry's 3-0 victory, and Oasis Dennis' 3-0 win. Steve and Frank took the Beer Frame from Keith and Weezel, but Keith stayed at the table and won all 3 of his games in dramatic fashion. Leo kept it rollin' with 3 wins of his own. But then Frank said "Hold up. That's enough" and won all 3 of his in the last match of the night, stopping the Bulldog's bleeding, and leaving the bar with a 9-12 loss to the Stickmen.

The Empire welcomed in the weary travelers, the Oasis 8-Ballers, in week 10. Unfortunately for the Empire, the Ballers made themselves really at home. Bud and Doug got all 3 for the Oasis club, and almost everyone else got 2 wins for the 8-Ballers, making the final score a whopping 15-6. The Empire did save some face by winning the Beer Frame, though, as Ty and Paul teamed up to beat Doug and Jimmy Soto.

The Dragons hosted the Towne Lounge II team at the Oasis last week. Brenon started the night with a 3-0 victory, and that set the tone for the rest of the night as the Dragons held on and won 13-8. Kenny Smith chipped in 3 in the bottom half, as Ed saved his team from a disastrous night by getting the last 3 in the bottom frame. Ed and Rich managed to beat the father-son Smith tandem of Aaron and Kenny in the Beer Frame for a Lounge II win.

The other Towne Lounge team was at home hosting the Oasis Original O's. This contest was close from beginning to end. Teams traded 2-win matches in the first half leading to a 6-6 tie at the break. Jason and Amer took care of Slade and Leland in the Beer Frame. Kevin K. got 2, then Jason Jones got 3 putting the Lounge in the lead 11-7, but red-hot Oasis O Joel came back with the final 3 games to make the final score a very close 11-10 Lounge victory.

The Hammerheads of Last Call ventured over to the Oasis to take on the Nuggets in week 10. The Nuggets weren't too hospitable as they trounced the 'Sharks 15-6. Mike Brandt Jr., Bill R., Paul A., and Mike Karol all got 3-0 hat tricks for the Nuggets. Rich Jr. got half of his team's 6 total points as he got all 3 of his games. Mike Karol and Kenny Duff made things even worse for Last Call, sticking Rich Jr. and Kris with the Beer Frame tab.

Good luck in week #11 - the last week of the first-half! The 'Nugs will be idle on their bye this week, so other teams near the top - here's your chance to pass them if you can!

Week #9 Results
Jan 8, 2011, 4:17 pm

Here's the Week 9 results...

The Stickmen were home at the Down Lo hosting the Dragons. The match was tied 6-6 at the break. John Chamberlin chipped in a 3-winner to keep it close. Sundy and Keith beat John and Steve for the Beer Frame win. In the second half, Aaron started it off with a 3-win effort, but Leo and Keith finished the night with 6 straight wins, and a final score of 12-9.

It was a battle of the Lounges upstairs as I took on II. Tony got all 3 of his for the Lounge I, and Rusty got all 3 of his for the Lounge II, leaving the teams tied at the break. Fahd and Jason Jones got the bragging rights this time as they beat Steve Swim and Captain Ed for the Beer Frame. In the bottom half, the players traded 2-1 games, and Ed got the last one 2-1 for the close 11-10 victory.

The Bulldogs were home at the Oasis taking on the Hammerheads of Last Call. The 'Dogs were up 7-5 at the mid-point, but they turned up the heat in the bottom frames winning 8 of 9 making the final score 15-6 Bulldogs. Sean and Rich got the Beer Frame though, beating John Denton and Ed Bowers.

Also at the Down Lo, the Playa's were hosting the Original O's. The Playa's were up 8-4 at the Beer Frame, thanks to Charles' 3-0 showing. Charles and Kevin won the Beer Frame against Joel and Josh. After Tom LeClaire played his match and got 1 point, Captain Mike looked at his bench and realized it was empty, and had to forfeit the final 2 matches. The free 6 points gave the O's a 12-9 victory on the road, handing the Playa's their first loss of the season.

The Empire Club flew in from Durham Thursday for their match at the Oasis versus the Nuggets. The teams were tied at the break 6-6. Jimmy Scott got 3 for the 'Nugs, and Ian Filby got 3 for the Empire to help their respective teams. James and Paul won the Beer Frame for the Empire as they took care of Bill R. and Matt ?. of the Nuggets. In the bottom half, Patrick, Julius, and Ty each got 2 wins to give their Empire a 12-9 victory.

Good luck in week #9. The Playa's will be on their bye week, but my hunch is they will not be resting. I'm sure you'll still see the crew playing downstairs all week.

Week #8 Results
Jan 8, 2011, 4:02 pm

Sorry for the delay - I took the Holiday break off from pool business, but here finally is a quick recap of week #8-

The Playa's beat the Bulldogs 15-6, as Henry and Jason each got 3 wins for the Playa's. Charles and Kevin also got the Beer Frame win. The Playa win gave them a huge 40-point lead in the standings.

The Down Lo Stickmen lost a close one to the Original O's of Oasis, 10-11. It was tied 6-6 at the break, thanks to Stickman Larry's 3-win frame. Leland and Stacy got the Beer Frame win after James won all 3 of his in the first half. Joel got 2 out of 3 in the final match to seal the deal.

The Nuggets also lost a close one 10-11 to the 8-Ballers. Bud won his match 3-0 for the Ballers, and everyone else had 2-1 or 1-2 matches. Matt and Mike Brandt Jr. got the Beer Frame for the Nuggets.

The Dragons beat up on the Towne Lounge I club, as they walked away with a 13-8 victory. Jeff Brun and Micah won 3-0 matches back-to-back, and Brenon and Micah won the Beer Frame.

The Towne Lounge II team traveled to Durham and snuck out with an 11-10 victory. Ed Theis and Shawn Bell had hat tricks for the Lounge, and James Williams got all 3 of his for the Empire. Steve Hale and Rusty beat Pat and Julius for the Beer Frame honors.

Week #9 results on the way...

Results from Week #7
Dec 14, 2010, 10:21 pm

Here are the results from week #7 (12/9/10):

Over at the Oasis, Stacy's Original O's were 'home' versus the Oasis Nuggets. In a close first-half, Mike Brandt, Sr. got 3 wins to start the night off for the Nuggets, but two matches later, Josh Vasquez got three for the O. When they went to the Beer Frame, the Nuggz were up 7-5. In the aforementioned Beer Frame, Scotch doubles partners Lee and Mike Karol beat the O's Troy and Leland for the honors. Leland struck back in the 5th match, starting the comeback, getting all 3 games. Slade got two, and Joel got two, wrapping the night up for a come-from-behind 12-9 victory.

On the North side of town, the Strip Mall Shooters - more commonly known as the Last Call Hammerheads - were hosting the Down Lo Stickmen. The first half was all Stickmen - as they were up 9-3 at the break. Shooting in the second spot, Larry Hiller pulled out the hat trick to help his team on it's way. Larry came back to the table for the Beer Frame as he and Scott took on Hammerhead Beer Frame legends Sean and Rich. The Stickmen got the wins, but Sean and Rich Jr. had an impressive 8-Ball Run Out, Scotch doubles style, in the second game. Scott stayed at the table and got 2 wins, and Keith popped up to get all 3 of his, kilt and all, giving the Stickmen a huge 14-4 lead with one match still to go. Saving his team from a disastrous defeat, Kris Rhode came up big and won all 3 of his to finish the night, leaving the Stickmen with a semi-ass-whooping 14-7 victory.

The Empire Club was back at home in Durham as the visiting Dragons made the trek south. It didn't take long for the Dragons to heat up as Brenon shot first and got all 3 of his games. Kenny Smith made a rare start and got two of his games, Jeff Brun got a rare 1 point victory, and Micah got two points to give the Dragons an 8-4 lead at halftime. Pat and James shot down John Chamberlin and Brenon's hopes of free beer, as they efficiently won the Frame 2-0. Luckily the Dragons had a good start. One of their other players must have gotten lost in the orchards along the Midway as they had to fare with only 6 players. Fortunate for them, 6 was enough tonight as they still won 11-10 despite forfeiting the last match.

The Towne Lounge II club has to still be reeling from the freight train that hit them last week - aka the Playa's Express. The first place Down Lo team travelled upstairs to take on the Lounge on their table - a table which according to rumors they took with them when they left. Henry Dorsey, Kevin Cibart, Gregg Prendergast, Brian Griffin, and Charles Lintz all had 3-0 victories. Throw in Mikey's 2 points and Jason's 1 point, and you have an 18-3 clobbering. Have to give props to Mark Sweany who managed 1 win, and Captain Ed who stood strong for his team and got 2 wins. That was it for the Lounge. The Playa's must have felt bad winning by the Beer Frame, as Charles and Kevin gave it up to Ed and Shawn.

The other Towne Lounge team was over at the Oasis where they fared much better against the 8-Ballers. Here's an S.A.T. math question for you: If everyone for the 8-Ballers got one point, except Jimmy Soto who got two, and everyone on the Towne Lounge team got two points, except for Dave Larabee who got one, what was the final score?

A. 8-Ballers 10, Lounge 11

B. 8-Ballers 11, Lounge 10

C. 8-Ballers 7, Lounge 14

D. 8-Ballers 8, Lounge 13

E. None of the above

The 8-Ballers couldn't win the home Beer Frame match, as Rob and Brian lost to Kevin and Fahd, with a score of - you guessed it - 2-1. Oh yeah, the answer is D.

That's all there was from week #7. The Bulldogs will be back in action coming off their bye week. The Hammerheads of Last Call will have much more time to practice their karaoke as they have the bye week next. Everyone's off the two weeks after as we break for Christmas and New Year's. Be sure to ask Santa for a new cue before it's too late!

Good luck in week #8 - the last week for Chico Men's Pool in 2010!

Website tip/workaround for stats page
Dec 9, 2010, 3:13 am

I know there are some limitations/bugs/annoyances with the website, namely in the stats page. One of them is the lack of a percentage column. Trust me, I wish there was one, but the site doesn't have it built in. The developers are getting hounded by me to make one. Hopefully there will be one soon.

The other annoyance is that when you want to see the true leader in match wins (or any category), it doesn't include everybody. You can select the column you want to sort from highest to lowest, or lowest to highest, but it only shows the top 99 on page one, then on page 2 it shows players 100-112. Page one won't show the bottom of the alphabet players (on page 2). So, for example, James Williams won't be on page one for match wins, but he's the top of the column in page 2. I did, however, stumble on a workaround. If you are interested, here it is. To show all 112+ players on one page, so you can see the true leaders (or losers), do this:

Go to statistics page (green left-hand column)

Click on Team Filter (it says by default 'all players', but it really isn't (see above))

Choose a team (any team)

Once it loads that team's stats, go back to Team Filter and re-choose 'All Teams'

All the players will be on one page and you can sort it however you like by clicking once or twice on the column heading (MW, RunOut, 2-win, etc.) and see the true league leaders (or losers).

Hope that helps - the developers know about that bug and they say they will fix it in the next update, whenever that is. Again, the site was developed for soccer, hockey, softball, etc., leagues. We had to modify it a little to make it work for billiards. Even then, our league structure and playing-style isn't a 'conventional' one, which doesn't make it any easier. I'll report any updates or changes when they happen.
